The return of the Careers Cuppa

Friday November 6th saw the return of the My So-Called Career “Careers Cuppa”. A weekly group call for anyone who wants to take a step back from lockdown life and connect with others outside their family, work, or friend groups.   It’s a space in the week to talk, to listen, to learn and to share, and to recognise and create room for some of the bigger, messier emotions we might be feeling that don’t fit neatly in a box.

Each week, we tackle a topic relevant to how we are working now, with a mix of practical tips, advice and support, and end with a coaching exercise to take away and explore in your own time.

In the first lockdown, 55 women joined the calls between March and May and we covered topics relating to how we were all adjusting - working from home, how to balance immediate needs with longer term career focus, furlough, redundancy, boundaries, routines and rituals and a whole host of other issues, all suggested by the participants. It fast became my favourite hour of the week and it was amazing to see the groups change from week to week.

As the shorter days and colder weather mean that much of the scaffolding we constructed to keep us strong earlier in the year might need re-engineering, the comfort and reassurance that comes from connection feels all the more important, so this felt like the perfect time to bring it back.

How do I take part?

The Careers Cuppa will now take place on Fridays at 1pm GMT every week of lockdown #2, and for as long as you tell me you want it to stay.
